General Support Donations
General support donations provide essential monies, contributed throughout the year, to fund the future of the organization. General support donations, whether big or small, will provide opportunities to grow the program for older students, organized groups and potentially adult oriented programming. Donors also have the option of providing unrestricted support to the Village, or designating their gifts for specific purposes. We sincerely appreciate all donations.
Donations of Appreciated Assets
Another option is to donate appreciated assets. These generally take the form of stocks and bonds, but other assets (e.g. real property) can also be donated. As a general rule, the donor can deduct the current value of the asset on their taxes, which may be significantly more than the asset's original acquisition value. Working with a professional financial specialist on these matters is advisable.
Legacy Bequests
A bequest is an easy, practical way to make a meaningful contribution to Children’s Village of Washington County without affecting your current finances. Through a bequest in your will or a provision in your living trust, you may name the Village as a beneficiary. In considering a legacy bequest, family consultation and legal representation is essential. No gift is too small.
IRA contributions
Recent changes in the tax laws provide the option of donating monies from your individual Retirement Account (IRA). Donors age 70 1/2 or older can make gifts of up to $100,000 to Children’s Village of Washington County directly from their IRAs. These donations, under current law, are not considered taxable income to the donor.
Employer Programs
Many employers have established gifting programs by which employees can make nontaxable donations to charitable organizations within their communities. As an IRS designated 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, the Children’s Village of Washington County can be a worthy recipient of your support. In some cases, there is an added benefit when the employer matches the employee's contribution. Please consider this option when your employer undertakes its annual charitable fundraising drive.
Beneficiary Designations
You can also demonstrate your support by naming Children’s Village of Washington County as beneficiary of your life insurance, retirement plan, or annuity. Contact your plan administrator for a change of beneficiary form. If you would like to name Children’s Village as a beneficiary, simply decide what percentage of the plan's value you would like us to receive and name the Village on the beneficiary form. Then return the form to the administrator. In making decisions of this type, please consult family members as well as appropriate legal and financial advisors.

With a remembrance gift, the donor has the option of specifying how the gift should be applied. Examples of designated gifts that can be given include: sponsorship of the annual open house at the Village called “Kids Alive Fest,” sponsorship of the annual Community Celebrity Breakfast or the Children’s Village Growth Fund, which supports the development office in improving the program offerings. These gifts should be tailored to the interests and passions of the one being honored as well as those of the donor.
